Denbigh Playscheme - £1,635
To cover cost of trips and purchase art and craft materials
" We will be able to pay for the children to go on the trips and also to buy our art materials. Without your help the children would be very disappointed as they love the trips out and love making things like cards and collages. We will have to make you something to say thank you. Lozells Learning Centre - £4,300
To establish a weekly group to give children aged 5-11 hands on experience in the performing arts
“This grant will help us to enrich the ‘out of school’ experiences for the pupils of a deprived inner city area of Birmingham” (LNF Birmingham)

Redditch Music Society - £500
To help the society to continue holding an annual series of concerts.
“It gives us the confidence and ability to plan our next concert season and so continue bringing all that is best in classical music to Redditch” (Charles Henry Foyle Trust)

Youth United Drama Group - £7,000
To publish a book of poetry and prose written by inner city young people
“This grant will enable ordinary inner city youth to voice how they feel in prose and have the great opportunity of seeing their own words in their own book. A record for all to see - thank you” (LNF Birmingham)



Disability / Special Needs

Action for Blind People - £2,500
To develop physical sports skills and self esteem for visually impaired children.
“We are delighted to receive this grant which will help fund Birmingham actionnaires, a sport club for blind and partially sighted children. The Birmingham actionnaires have enjoyed various sports over the past few months, including basketball and new age kurling which they might not have been able to do in mainstream schools. It's thanks to such donations that this fantastic project can continue” (Sports Relief)

Headway Black Country - £1,950
To provide a programme of exercise (called Extend) making it available to people who are physically disabled.
“The funding that we receive will add value to everyday lives of acquired brain injury survivors in the Black Country. We will be providing a programme of Health & Fitness to our less able clients who sometimes find it difficult to access mainstream programmes. They will have the opportunity to exercise in a safe environment and because the 'Extend Class' delivers the sessions to music it has a social impact as well as physical.” (Sports Relief)

Millennium Carers - £7,000
To set up a Saturday club offering a variety of activities to disabled children
“It will provide children with disabilities an opportunity to take part in leisure activities, which they often experience barriers and difficulties accessing” (LNF Birmingham)

Walsall Dial - £3,050
To deliver contemporary dance lessons to physically disabled and sensory impaired children and young people covering staff salaries and room hire.
“Life for physically disabled and sensory impaired children and young people in Walsall has become one big song and dance- well just dance actually, thanks to a grant of £3,050 from the Local Network Fund. Walsall Dial are using the funding to run contemporary dance lessons in a fully accessible building using a qualified and experienced tutor and support worker. The children and young people accessing the project would like to send a big thank you to the Birmingham Foundation” (LNF Black Country)



Education & Training

Dragons FC - £5,005
To provide coaching courses, new kit and equipment and cover general running costs
“This grant will enable us to provide a quality football club for young people. Volunteers will receive extra training including child protection. Also a new kit for our new team will take the financial burden away from parents” (LNF Black Country)

New Environmental Ventures Ltd - £2,500
To start a community resource centre for vocational training in bricklaying
“Your grant will help us start a community resource centre for vocational training in bricklaying, which is responsive to local needs, contributing towards employment and well being of individuals living in Aston” (Aston Pride Community Chest)

Newtown-Aston Adventurer & Pathfinder Club - £6,955
To run a range of activities for their group including First Aid training, swimming and sewing
“This grant will not only contribute to activities within the community, it will also strengthen and enhance skills, and contribute towards personal development for both volunteer staff, club members and community guests on a long term basis” (LNF Birmingham)

Small Heath Area Community Safety Forum - £6,989.84
To develop and deliver a school recycling and education project to 8 primary schools in the Small Heath and Nechells area
“The schools recycling and education project will help the young children in Small Heath and Nechells and their schools make recycling a way of life and Birmingham a greener cleaner city” (LNF Birmingham)

West Midlands Somali Association £6,874
To provide a homework club for students and aid their achievement in English, Science and Maths
“The project will support the under privileged students to become part of mainstream students by providing support in English, Maths and Science” (LNF Birmingham)



Environmental

Fox Hollies Community Association £5,378.88
To provide new equipment and furniture to extend the playspace into the Environmental Centre
“The funding will be used to provide new equipment and furniture to extend our playspace into our Environmental Centre. This will enable the children who use this centre to access the outside environment which they may not have access to in their home setting” (LNF Birmingham)


Penn Fields School Parents Support Group - £6,500

To provide a sensory garden for children with special needs
“The sensory garden project wil be of enormous value to our special needs pupils. It is intended that the garden will help stimulate the senses and provide a 'haven of peace' a place to relax and unwind from life's stresses” (LNF Black Country)


Shades of Black Community Project - £7,000

To organise a gardening and healthy eating programme for young people
“This is a wonderful opportunity which will enable Shades of Black to continue the positive social inclusion work it is doing within the local community” (LNF Birmingham)

Weoley Castle Community Project - £7,000
To carry out maintenance work on the club's premises, creating a safe and more pleasant environment for the club's young people
“The grant will enable the children to use the outdoor area behind the hall in safety, with garden play equipment which most of them do not have access to, with their school friends; providing an outside play experience” (LNF Birmingham)



Family Values

Arabic Oasis - £6,840.63
To organise monthly sessions of activities for young people
“The fund will help us to run fun, creative and skills activities for our community children with their parents. It will alleviate isolation, provide access and raise their confidence and social involvement” (LNF Birmingham)

Ashiana Community Project - £840
To provide a playscheme for the under fives
“This grant will help us to support children and families in the Sparkbrook area, by bringing children from different backgrounds together, helping and encouraging children’s' development through activities, supporting parents by giving them time to do things which they would otherwise be unable to do such as going to the hairdresser” (LNF Birmingham)

Blue Cross Stay and Play - £684
To provide a subsidised support group for pre-school children and their parents.
“To pay the rent on our premises, enabling us to keep fees low whilst providing excellent learning opportunities for all families” (LNF Birmingham)


Little Fishes - £200
We have organised 4 outings during July-Aug one to Weston-Super-Mare, the others to theme parks and Stratford. The donation will be used to offset the price of the coaches
“Very much so, as a lot of families are not very well off, and cannot without our help afford to take the children out. We subsidise the cost through raffles and a tea bar we run” (Weston Beamor - Adv Fund)

Sewing for fun - £3,000
Project will give women an opportunity to produce clothes etc for their family i.e. children.
“The grant awarded to the sewing for fun group will enable us to purchase all the necessary equipment to run the group. This will include sewing machines, materials and pay staff salaries” (Kings Norton- 3 Estates Rnd 7)




Health & Social Issues

Aston & Birchfield Community Association (ABCA) - £5,000
To provide local people aged 50+ with social activities and hot meals, and also giving them the opportunity to come together in the ABCA setting
“Providing the elderly/over 50s with a luncheon club, to facilitate social welfare activity to the vulnerable and hot meals, whilst also providing a happy warm and attractive setting for the elderly” (Aston Pride Community Chest – 2 grants at £2,500 each)

Bangla Kagoj - £2,400
To run three seminars on mental health for women, diabetes and cancer connected to smoking
“This grant is tremendously applicable for Bangladeshi Community in action to look into our own health need and find a solution that improves health and well-being for the whole community. Without this grant we would not be able to address the need within our community” (Aston Pride Community Chest)

Miri Piri Young People's Forum - £7,000
To set up the 'Health Factory' project for inner-city young people who have been excluded from their community
“This grant will provide a solid foundation for the newly formed organisation. It will also give us a chance to perform our proposed activities. The grant will provide a centre in which local youth can attend and feel part of the decision making process” (LNF Black Country)

NCH Birmingham Young Carers Project - £7,000
To run a six month Health and Wellbeing programme for high need young carers
“This grant will provide us with vital funds needed to improve the health and wellbeing of the most vulnerable young carers in the city” (Four Acre Trust)

Round Oak Bereavement Information Support Network - £7,000
To run 2 weekend workshops
“This grant will enable Round Oak Robins to provide much needed support to young people whose lives have been affected by bereavement” (LNF Black Country)


Equipment /Information Technology

Birmingham Inner Circle Community Credit Union Ltd - £1,000

To cover the cost of 2 new computers, and networking to link them with the existing machine
“The donation will help us bring more efficient and effective financial services to local people” (Dragonboat Race)

Home Start Saltley - £400
To cover the costs of a much needed, updated photocopier for the office
“Provide us with the opportunity to produce excellent quality newsletters and ‘trip invitations’ for Home-Start families” (Weston Beamor - Adv Fund)

St James Community Advice Centre - £2,500
To purchase a new photocopier and mobile room dividers for the advice centre which would improve the quality of service offered.
“It will be really helpful to have more privacy for our clients and a better photocopier. Thank you for making this possible” (Aston Pride Community Chest)

Sandwell Traders Association - £35,600
Refurbishment of CCTV System Great Bridge Town Centre
"The Fair Share Grant via the Birmingham Foundation will enable Sandwell Traders Association to reinstate the CCTV scheme in Great Bridge Town Centre and all surrounding car parks. Using the latest digital cameras, monitoring and recording equipment, this will lead to a reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour and clearly identify who, when and where incidents occur. It will also greatly increase customer confidence in the shopping area particularly amongst our elderly” (Fairshare Sandwell)




Sport

Aston Stars Badminton Club - £1,402
To encourage young people to play badminton and to cover the costs of equipment, tournament and training costs
“With this grant more young people will benefit from learning the technique and tactics to play badminton with a qualified coach from Badminton England. Play it, live it, love it” (Sports Relief)

Avenues Community Association - £1,400
To be able to offer young people the chance to learn basketball and canoeing.
“We believe in giving every child a chance even those with learning disabilities. Water sport is a great way of having fun and Basketball is a great way to keep fit all the children will enjoy both sports” (Sports Relief)


Blakenhall Harriers - £3,920

To provide football training to children in the local area
“This grant will help continue grass-roots football in our community. It is a fantastic amount which will benefit children in our area helping to reduce anti-social behaviour and increase social inclusion. This is a fantastic grant and greatly appreciated” (LNF Black Country)

Kingswinford Junior Fishing Club - £1,100
To establish the junior fishing club for equipment and liability insurance.
“The Grant will secure the fishing club for another year, I intend to run the fishing club voluntary for the future as long as possible. The young anglers will benefit from the Ground with liability Insurance and weather Gear and equipment. Such as Rod, Reels, Poles, Umbrellas.” (Sports Relief)


St Thomas's Community Olympic Association - £7,000
To promote a 'Community Olympics' programme for children, young people and the wider community
“We are grateful to you for giving us the thumbs up to our funding application. This now ensures that our event goes ahead and that we are able to do things as we had planned. We also found the help and advice given to us during the application process very helpful” (LNF Black Country)
