St Basil's big Sleep Out 2016
St Basils works with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping over 4000 young people per year across the West Midlands region with specific services in Birmingham, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, Worcestershire, the Wyre Forest and Coventry. Every year over 1200 young people are housed in our 29 supported accommodation schemes, which for some young people includes their young children as well. We have a range of prevention, accommodation and support services to help young people regain the stability they need to rebuild their lives, gain skills, training and employment and move on. The aim is to help them successfully break the cycle of homelessness so that they can go on to experience a bright, fulfilling future and never return to a state where they are at risk of homelessness again.
St Basils also works with young people and partners on a national basis (funded separately). We facilitate the National Youth Reference Group and the Youth Homeless Parliament, we are part of the national End Youth Homelessness Alliance and we are working to roll out our 'Positive Pathway' model nationwide.

Jobson James donates Christmas Card money to Charity! - 18.2.11
As part of the ongoing tradition at Jobson James Financial Services, we are delighted to say that Jobson James have elected to make a donation to charity this year instead of sending Christmas Cards.
This year, they have decided to donate to the Birmingham and Black Country Community Foundation.
Richard Venner, Managing Director Jobson James said "In these difficult times, charities are often hit hard, with the loss of funding and a reduction in donations a common place. At the same time, the need placed upon the charity remains, or is often greater. I therefore hope you can join me in this decision and as such, attach to this email an electronic Christmas card to you, with the very best of wishes from all at Jobson James. It only leaves me to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2012."

- Surviving Winter Launched! - 10.11.11
Community Foundations across the UK launch their Surviving Winter Appeal today at the House of Commons at 3.30pm in partnership with Saga. The UK wide Surviving Winter Appeal is being administered in this region by Birmingham and Black Country Community Foundation (BBCCF), to encourage people to make donations to help older and vulnerable people who cannot afford to pay their fuel bills.“Staying warm and healthy in our cold winters is something most of us take for granted. However, when the idea of those more fortunate “handing on” their winter fuel payments to local, vulnerable people was presented, I wanted to pledge my payment to the “Surviving Winter Appeal”. It would be great to think that all those people who are in a position to forego part or all of their own winter fuel payment could join this great scheme and spread a little warmth” Sir David Jason
Did you know last winter more than 2700 vulnerable people died in Birmingham and Black Country from causes directly attributable to the cold and poor living conditions?
As shocking as this is, it is just the tip of the iceberg – over 800,000 pensioners and vulnerable people in Birmingham and Black Country live in fuel poverty.
The Surviving Winter Appeal is being launched to help elderly and vulnerable people affected by the cold winter. Surviving Winter is a UK-wide co-ordinated campaign to encourage people to support the appeal with donations or for those who can afford to, to donate their Winter Fuel payment to help those for whom the Winter Fuel Payment is not nearly enough... read more

Helping to promote a culture of giving - 26.05.11
Philanthropy is defined as the desire to promote the welfare of others, which is expressed by the generous donation of money, time and talents to good causes. Zoë Keens, Director - Development, Birmingham & Black Country Community Foundation, reports...
The thought behind the 'Big Society' is "to create a climate that empowers local people and communities, building a big society that will 'take power away from politicians and give it to people'".
This is interesting because there is a view that the government has intermediated in community issues over the last 50 years and because of that many have lost the instinct to say, when we see a problem: "We should do something"...read more

Now's the time for philanthropy - 21.04.11
Charity is not the same as philanthropy - and it is time for change. Simply argued, philanthropy moves donors from transactional giving to a greater engagement with the causes they are funding.
In the UK charitable giving is high on the agenda. We see it locally, and recently through the amazing response to this year's Red Nose Day - more then 74 million raised so far fro Comic Relief. This money will make a real impact on people right here in the UK, for example the Community Foundation is working with the Bimirngham Mail to help Comic Relief deliver highly valuable small grants to our communities in Birmingham and the Black Country...read more -
