Birmingham Mail Community Chest: Grassroots Grants in Birmingham (Fund now closed)

NB: You can still apply for the general Grassroots Grants funding stream

Community Chest grants are a part of the Grassroots Grants Scheme and is promoted as a joint scheme between the Birmingham Mail and the Birmingham Community Foundation.

Grants of between £250 and £5000 are available to small organisations in the Birmingham that are doing great work to help local people living tough lives. If this sounds like you, make sure you apply for a Community Chest grant...

...with the help of the Birmingham Community Foundation we’ll make sure the money reaches those who need it most.

To qualify for this scheme you should be based or working in the area covered by the Birmingham Mail. The area for the Birmingham Mail Community Chest covered by Birmingham Community Foundation is Birmingham.
(Please note however, that: Solihull is also an area covered by Birmingham Mail Community Chest and is being administered by Solihull Community Foundation).

Birmingham Mail Community Chest Grants criteria: Birmingham
The scheme is available to organisations whose income is less than £30,000 taken as an average of the last three years (e.g. Add together the last 3 years income for your organisation and divide by three. If the result is under £30,000 then you meet the income criteria; this is done to ensure a fair result. It means that if you have had a particularly good year, but usually struggle with income you could still be eligible).

We are keen to receive applications from voluntary/community organisations that are able to demonstrate that their project will build their capacity and bring benefit to the local community and in doing so meet at least one of the objectives listed below:

  • Encourage community responsibility
  • Develop community capacity
  • Are unable to access other forms of funding
  • Does not duplicate other work being done within the area

How much can you apply for?
The maximum grant is £5,000 and the minimum is £250

NB: Any group that is awarded a grant needs to have their funding spent or allocated by 31 March 2011 when the programme closes.

Deadline Date:
5pm on Wednesday 11th August 2010 (Fund now closed).

Awards:
Awards will be made at a special presentation evening with details to be announced later
