Birmingham Foundation Chairman David Bucknall said: "We are thrilled that the Duke of Edinburgh has taken time to show his support for this project. It is a superb example of Birmingham giving back to Birmingham which will provide a platform for many more projects".

Prince Philip was in Nechells on Friday 30 May, primarily to mark the start of the £3.7 million regeneration by the Birmingham Foundation of the disused Nechells Baths.

Since the Nechells Pool closed in 1995 the building has been a target for vandalism and fallen into disrepair.

No longer suitable for its original use, the Foundation is converting the complex into a centre for job-training, community groups and a cyber café etc (see above News article 'Foundation Splashs out for Nechells Baths').

Birmingham Voluntary Drugs Forum

The forum was created to ensure that the diverse range of voluntary and community sector organisations in Birmingham are better able to engage with strategic developments underway to tackle drug misuse. It aims to articulate concerns, share best practice, disseminate ideas and information and, above all, give the voluntary sector a voice to enhance communication with strategic bodies, such as the Drug Action Team.
