Duke of Edinburgh visit to Nechells Baths - 30th May 2003
Birmingham
Foundation Chairman David Bucknall said: "We are thrilled that the Duke
of Edinburgh has taken time to show his support for this project. It is a
superb example of Birmingham giving back to Birmingham which will provide
a platform for many more projects".
Prince Philip was in Nechells on Friday 30 May, primarily to mark the start of the £3.7 million regeneration by the Birmingham Foundation of the disused Nechells Baths.
Since the Nechells Pool closed in 1995 the building has been a target for vandalism and fallen into disrepair.
No
longer suitable for its original use, the Foundation is converting the complex
into a centre for job-training, community groups and a cyber café
etc (see above News article 'Foundation Splashs out for
Nechells Baths').
